The basic idea of a points system is simple: reinforce positive student choices by awarding points. Optionally, you can take away points for negative choices. As students earn points, you can connect their hard work to different opportunities and rewards. Rewards need to be age appropriate and meaningful to students, and the possibilities are endless. Great rewards don’t need to cost any money, either.
Unfortunately, creating a points system from scratch can be overwhelming. There are a million ways to go, from stars on the board to paper “bucks,” to a centralized spreadsheet system.
